The fourth Africa Climate Forum runs on October 13 and 14 at the Shehu Musa Yar’Adua Centre, Abuja. The Global Centre for Law, Business and Economy (GCLBE) organises it, and George Nwangwu, its Director-General, is the convener. The theme is “Implementing in Lockstep: Public-Private Action for Green Outcomes”. The forum takes place in person and virtually.

The agenda. Listed topics include private enterprise, carbon markets, energy access and natural gas, food security, adaptation, community-led climate action, human rights and the just transition. Sessions will also look at how AI and data can improve climate planning. A Deal Room is meant to connect project developers with investors and financial institutions.

For journalists. A Pulitzer Centre side event on journalism, climate action and civic space engagement will examine how public-interest reporting can strengthen climate accountability and amplify affected communities.

Named speakers. They include Dr Salisu Dahiru, former Director-General of the National Council on Climate Change; Dr Forster Boateng, Managing Director of C4Impact Advisory Group; Dr Gloria Boamah Kusi, Senior Sustainability Officer at the Jospong Green Transition Office; and Dr Debany Fonseca Batista, Research Associate at Dalhousie University’s CERC.

What to watch. Three themes connect to our reporting:

  1. Whether carbon-market sessions address Nigeria’s host-country approval criteria and the projected $2.5–3 billion in annual carbon finance.
  2. Whether the just transition and community-led action sessions pick up this week’s host-community transparency demands.
  3. Whether the natural gas discussion touches the new licensing round.
